Weekend @ Acme 7/27

Greetings from Carrboro,

The last days of July should be national “Hug Your Local Line Cook” week. Okay. More like national “Buy Your Local Line Cook a Beer and Wave Fondly from a Safe Distance” week. At Acme, we completely understand that hugging a line cook in July is a lot like feeding Shamu – best done by a professional. In a wet suit. And we also understand, sadly, that this honorary calendar gesture isn’t likely to happen any time soon. What with the Olympics and the whole Katie – Tom fiasco. Yes, we get that a nation as great as ours has distinct priorities. We get it.

But lordy mercy it is hot in the kitchen. HOT. And then we turn the ovens on. All four of them. Then the burners. To give you an idea of what it’s like; in the middle of the day, go outside and crank up your grill full tilt. Then stand up close to it for a good six hours. While listening to Lynard Skynard. And drinking neon colored Gatorade. You will SO get the picture. And you will feel so very happy that you don’t have the genetic defect that makes people work in restaurants. Some of us aren’t so, well, lucky.

Grilled Yellowfin Tuna. Pan-Seared Carolina Flounder. The Acme Tomato Plate. Chocolate Pecan Pie. Watermelon Mojito. Down East Shrimp Stew. Grilled Local Ribeye Steak. Flash Fried Carolina Catfish. Old School Tomato Hand Pies. Fresh Figs with Housemade Ricotta and Sorghum. Pan-Seared Scallops. Pecan Crusted Fried Chicken. Peach and Blackberry Cobbler. Slow Cooked Country Broad Beans. Calamari. Fresh Salmon. Great Food and Service? At Acme? No sweat.

Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
