Weekend @ Acme 8/10 and Winemaker Dinner
|
8/10
Greetings from Carrboro, We were pretty pathetic. Sitting in an inflatable kiddie pool, drinking Coke out of a can, and watching The Price Is Right on a black and white TV. It sat on a lawn chair and had rabbit ears – an orange extension cord ran across the yard and in through a bedroom window. The summer sun made it too bright to really see anything, but we’d squint hard with just our heads above water in an effort to keep cool. We had an AC/DC cassette that we’d crank up during commercials. August hasn’t really changed much since then. It still requires serious survival techniques. But less Bob Barker. Much less. If only I’d had Soft Shell Crabs. Perfect, fried, fresh soft shell crabs. And layered Malted Chocolate and Marshmallow-Peanut Butter Pudding. Or a Watermelon Mojito. Or Grilled Tuna. Or Fresh Market Tomatoes with Deviled Eggs. Lucky for you that modern coping mechanisms are so much more delicious. Lord only knows how much saner I would have turned out. I don’t think Giampaolo Tabarrini watched The Price is Right as a kid. Somehow I can’t imagine a famous Italian winemaker earnestly guessing the cost of a washing machine. Or running down the aisle with a crazy rainbow wig. No. But I can imagine him coming to Carrboro to show off his blockbuster wines (www.tabarrini.us). Because, well, he is coming. Lucky, lucky us. Wednesday, August 29th. And Acme is doing our part to welcome him to town. Which translates into a night of great food and wine. In any language. We’ll get started at 6:30 on the 29th. Reservations are required as space is very limited. Menu is below. It’s going to be a great night. Scooby Doo pool optional. Who said that August couldn’t be this delicious? Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
