Greetings from Carrboro,
There’s an old restaurant saying: anticipation is the sweetest sauce. And for the most part, it’s true. Whether waiting for your name to be called after ordering from a taco truck or counting down the hours before a reservation at a much-ballyhooed restaurant in Manhattan, the feeling is very real.
I was with my family the first time that I had a beer at a restaurant. My older brother made a big deal out of it so, needless to say, I was a little amped. We were eating at some Italian place in a strip mall in Charlotte. The waiter set down my beer in a quite formidable frosted mug. Now, I’m not saying that they should have warned me, but jeez. My big, “frosted mug” was actually lightweight plastic and in my anticipatory exuberance, I basically threw the beer all over myself when I went to take the first sip.

So, this is just a warning should a similar anticipatory fever grab hold of you during the oh-so delicious days of Beach Week. You know, the one that starts tonight. In preparation for such lusty enthusiasm, we’ve made sure that both the tartar and cocktail sauces have quality, fitting lids and that the piña coladas will be in a sufficiently weighty glass. We do think that breaking out in song or impromptu dance moves – in your chair, please – are acceptable and, possibly, encouraged. But if you end up throwing fried flounder all over yourself, there may actually be bigger issues that need to be addressed outside of Acme.
Acme’s 12th Annual Beach Week. Tonight thru Sunday. Fried Shrimp and scallops and deviled crab. Flounder and mahi mahi and Carolina tuna. Corn on the cob and cole slaw and watermelon. Piña coladas and peach margaritas and summertime sangria. Cheesecake with fresh figs and peanut butter, chocolate, and banana icebox pie. Yes, we’ll have tomato plates and chile rellenos, smashburgers and pork chops. Don’t you worry. Because there’s no right or wrong when it comes to delicious food. As we like to say, to beach their own.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
