Greetings from Carrboro,
Among all the various things that may adorn a dining room table, the international sports world has a thing for cups. We are just besieged by them. The Stanley Cup. The World Cup. The Ryder Cup. Basically, if you beat another country, you get a cup. Period. You’d think by now someone would break free and trot out something new. And then there’s American football with its acute affinity for bowls. The Super Bowl, the Rose Bowl, the Duke’s Mayo Bowl (my personal favorite). If not just to escape the monotony, someone should break free. You know, live on the wild side. Would the Ryder Cup be any different if it was the Ryder Casserole Dish? What about a tankard? Or a flute?
And I’d personally like to make a plea for the always affable plate. The poor guy does all the heavy lifting and gets no respect. Not a single winners’ trophy ever mentions it, though Wimbledon does have a rather hefty platter for the winner. So – dammit – it’s about time for the plate to get the recognition it deserves. Can I get an amen?

At Acme, we certainly do our part carrying that torch. And have for nearly 30 years. Because with the Acme Tomato Plate, everybody is a winner. And it’s back, in all its glory, starting tonight. Local. field grown tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil pesto, deviled eggs, and bread & butter squash pickles. Think of it as summer’s righteous participation award; all you have to do is show up. That makes Acme sort of the Oprah of summertime. You get a tomato plate. And you get a tomato plate. Joy abounds across the land.
All just in time for Father’s Day. And, yes, that’s this Sunday for those of you who just started to google the date. And Father’s Day means brunch. Because dads dig brunch. Well, dads dig bacon. And what’s brunch without bacon? And maybe a Bloody Mary? He really doesn’t want a Dubai Chocolate bar. And you can definitely return that Labubu. Trust me.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The Staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
