Greetings from Carrboro,

Sometimes I think that restaurants are held together by hope, coffee, and delivery drivers. Take away any of those three and the whole charade falls apart. Especially at Christmas. I often stumble upon stashed ziploc bags of coffee beans that Raul and I have sequestered in case we arrive one morning and the restaurant is out of joe. To imagine me as a squirrel uncovering a trove of forgotten nuts would not be too far from the truth.

I can’t imagine getting out of bed in the morning without knowing that the professional team of people who show up every day to bring us eggs and wine and linens have our back. It’s true that restaurants may be havens for Luddites, but it takes a vast network of people to do their job before that first nub of butter hits a pan and we can do ours. Some become part of the Acme family. Richard, our UPS driver, suffers with me after every Carolina loss. And where I once would have ascribed all of that to something akin to luck, I now feel a deep sense of gratitude for the treasure trove of people that make the restaurant possible day after day.

By and large, the hope comes from both the great team of people who work here – cooking the food, stirring the drinks, making you smile – and from all of you who join us for dinner and choose to spend a bit of your life with us. That’s when all that collective work and coffee pays off. When you sit down and have a delicious meal with someone you love and leave the hectic world behind. At least, we hope so.

There are still five of our Christmas Feasts available for pickup on the 24th. The price for the meal for two is $95 and the menu is below. It could be the best present you get this holiday season.

And we have our traditional Holiday Prime Rib Dinner on Monday night, the 23rd. Of course, there will be our regular dinner menu as well that evening. It’s always a great night at the restaurant. I hope that you can join us.
