Greetings from Carrboro,
Feel free to use your measuring stick of choice. 122 days. 19 trips to the ABC store “for friends.” 77 semi-breakdowns realizing at-home learning is a sinister Russian plot to unmoor what’s left of your shipwrecked sanity. You know. Whatever. But however you break it down, it’s clear that traditional calendars just will not do the arc of this pandemic justice. And all of us at Acme are right there with you.
It’s been exactly four months since we last mixed a cocktail or took a reservation or bid a guest “good night.” Basically, eternity. And like the proverbial whiny kid in the back seat, all of us keep earnestly entreating “are we there yet??” to whoever’s at the wheel. And their answer? Another box of crayons and 3 sheets of construction paper. Great.
Well, as they say, when life gives you lemons, you toss them aside and ask for tomatoes. Juicy, perfect tomatoes. Because – ok, this should be obvious – you can’t have a very good Tomato Festival with silly lemons. Come on. It is July in Carrboro. And you know what that means.
The 19th Annual Acme Tomato Festival is here. Pandemic, shmandemic. So buckle up. Today through Sunday, July 16th – 19th. It’s our annual deep dive into delicious. And it’s equally our celebration of the great farmers who help make Carrboro such a special place to live. Literally, we couldn’t do this without them – something like 300 lbs of their tomatoes will be used this weekend. And what kind of road trip would our 2020 Acme Staycation World Tour be if we didn’t pull over at an all-American festival? Let’s do this. The ‘maters are calling.
