Greetings from Carrboro,
For better or worse, I often get ahead of myself. Sometimes, way ahead. And I must say, it appears to be genetic. As a child, my oldest daughter was openly distraught on the first day of a vacation by the thought that the trip was almost over – and we hadn’t even unpacked. I’ll do the same kind of thing, daydreaming about dessert halfway through my salad or trying to figure out the end of the movie before it’s halfway done. This can be rather annoying.
At the restaurant we like to say that anticipation is the sweetest sauce. And without a doubt, tasting that first strawberry of the season, or tomato, or soft shell crab is a revelation. Every single time. And so for me, one of the great things about cooking is that I can’t get too far ahead of myself. A tomato sandwich in February just doesn’t quite scratch that delicious itch the way it does in June. But it’s April and I can feel the wheels of time turning in the kitchen. Spring, finally. And there’s certainly plenty to anticipate. Oh, boy.
1st – As of this writing, we have 8 remaining Easter To-Go Feasts for Two. Each feast for two is $75 and the menu can be seen and feasts purchased here. Pick-up is Saturday, April 8th, 12pm – 2pm. Spend Sunday hunting for Easter eggs instead of dinner.
2nd – The Rosé Soirée is back. Sunday, April 23rd, 3pm – 7pm. But this year it will be at our cocktail bar, Atlas, just up the street from Acme on Main Street. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased here. It’s essentially a party celebrating Spring and pink wine and friends. With a soundtrack. Sunday, funday indeed. Each ticket includes 3 glasses of wine (and some surprises, for sure) and delicious food from the restaurant. Fish tacos, cucumber sandwiches, fried artichokes & remoulade. Yum.
3rd – The Acme Wine Dinner with Sonoma’s Longboard Vineyards and their very entertaining and talented winemaker Oded Shakked – Wednesday, April 26th @ 6:30 (doors @ 6pm). The menu for the dinner is below. Tickets are $75 per person and can be purchased here. It will be a great night of delicious wine and food. We expect the dinner to sell out quickly as several people have already purchased tickets. I hope that you can join us.
So, choose your poison. It’s going to be a great month.
