Greetings from Carrboro,
Forgive me. I don’t usually wade this deep into pop culture. But I couldn’t help it. Watching all the drama unfold around Prince Harry, William, Meghan, et al reminded me how much we relegate all sorts of things to sibling rivalry. The eldest and the youngest. And the privileges, foibles, and responsibilities of each. Broadway and Hollywood. Absolut and Titos. Ford and Tesla. Brewer’s yeast and Impossible Burgers. Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
And, well, California’s Napa Valley and the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Napa is a very sturdy stand-in for William. Balding, clean shaven, risk averse, formidable – a good cabernet if there ever was one. And the Willamette is the obvious Harry. Bearded, rugged, a bit of a wild child, decidedly more Jeep than Rolls Royce. You can taste it in the respective wines. History weighs heavy on Napa; there’s duty attached to that name. And respect. In the Willamette, a certain unbridled vigor comes through — a willingness to cut ties and try something new.
So, no. The big reveal is not that Harry, Meghan, and Archie are coming to dinner on their way to Canada. Paparazzi take note. Please. But the reveal, in fact, is that the equally alluring Argyle Vineyards from the Willamette Valley will be here in Carrboro. And we are thrilled. Thursday, January 30th. Oh-so-famous for their sparkling wines, the four-course dinner will also showcase Argyle’s equally awarded estate pinot noirs and chardonnay – wines that define the Willamette Valley.
The Acme Wine Dinner with Matt Green from Argyle Vineyards. Thursday, January 30th. We’ll get started at 6:30. Tickets for the dinner are $75 per person and can be purchased here. Menu is below. It’s going to be a great night. I hope that you can join us. You’ll be mad if you miss it. Royally.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
