Greetings from Carrboro,
The light’s different when I walk the dogs in the morning. The tomatoes brought in from farms are smaller, the vibrant sungolds so remarkably sweet. There’s the earthy smell of the marigolds brought by Wild Hare at the host stand . And I find myself thinking of roasted peppers more than those summer tomatoes, thyme more than basil. Scuppernongs and figs and plums taste right. Corn and okra, too. And oysters, always oysters. But apples and pears and pumpkins have yet to make their yearly entrance. Unless, of course, you happen to be at Starbucks.
Even in the summer-y heat yesterday, the old mulberry tree behind the restaurant was dropping yellowed leaves, acknowledging our turn to fall with what felt like genuine relief. So, it should be no surprise that the Acme menu wants to do the same thing. Can I get an amen? Pork chops with corn pudding and slow-cooked peach butter. Martha’s chile rellenos. Street corn “ribs.” Scuppernong pie with sweet tea ice cream. Pickled Carolina shrimp. Charred Jimmy Nardello peppers. Okra gumbo. Sea scallops with bacon & succotash. Acme honey pie with preserved plums. Fried shishito peppers. Oysters galore. Brown turkey fig handpie. Chili-rubbed New York strip steak. I must say that it’s a really good time to be hungry.
We still have a dozen tickets left for our wine dinner with Noah Ward from Australia’s Unico Zelo. The dinner is this Monday, September 11th. We will get started at 6:30pm (doors at 6pm). Tickets are $75 per person for the 5-course meal. Menu is below and tickets can be purchased HERE. These are exciting wines that showcase the energy of Australia’s new generation of winemakers. As they say, playful wines with purpose. It’s going to be a great night. So. Monday, funday anyone?
Also, there was some confusion around the discounted package of 4 tickets to Salt & Smoke. So, we’ve extended the sale through tomorrow at midnight to guarantee that everyone who wants the group price is able to get it. The easiest way to access the discounted pricing is by clicking HERE. Easy, peasy.
And check out the new website for our cocktail bar, Atlas. It’s a great place for a drink with friends, seven days a week, 5pm to midnight.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
