Greetings from Carrboro,

We can’t have been the only ones. The pool fascination had run its course and there was an abundance of denial surrounding the required summer reading list, the books ominously stacked on my bedside table. So the mall became our haven to avoid any hint that summer was at an end. Galaga, Defender and the food court. And of course the shangri-la of suburbia, the movie theater.

It was decadent. The teenagers who worked the ticket booth had to know. Had to. We’d buy our matinee ticket and reemerge four (and sometimes 6!) hours later. It was the 80’s version of BOGO before there was BOGO. A single movie was great. But there was untold luxury in slipping secretly from the end of one movie to the beginning of another. I can’t watch the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark without remembering that feeling of settling in to watch the second movie of the day. That was the life. I bet that I saw Raiders something like 15 times that summer.

In that spirit, I thought it just made sense for Acme to sneak in a second helping of Beach Week for one more weekend – to do our part and keep at bay the inevitable harried, rush-rush of life that September inevitably portends. Why not, right? Those nagging responsibilities can wait. Plus there were a healthy number of people who just couldn’t make it last weekend and whose genuine entreaties for a second chance to catch the Acme-fied Calabash wave were too hard to ignore. And we’re definitely not a restaurant that wants to stand between anyone and a delicious plate of fried seafood.

So, we’re back at it this weekend. Calabash comes to Carrboro. Again. Tonight through Sunday. Flounder and shrimp, crab and scallops, clams and tuna. So much delicious seafood. And we’ll have the right soundtrack and the right attire to set the mood – not to mention the oh-so-right drinks to provide the all-important vacation vibe. Flip-flops and Hawaiian shirts are encouraged. Staying four hours, not so much.
