Greetings from Carrboro,
She drove a Plymouth. This was the 70’s, so not a small car; you could easily park a Prius in the back seat. It was brown, smelled of breath mints and had a sun-faded box of Kleenex on the package shelf beneath the rear window. All that is obviously rather unremarkable. The intriguing part was that my great aunt Noree remained at the wheel of that Fury well into her 90s.
Not that she was a great driver. It had more to do with small town largesse. She’d lived in that town most of her life so people knew her well. They also knew her routine. Noree drove basically once a week – from her house to the Presbyterian church at 9:45 every Sunday and then back home at 12:30. Like clockwork.
Everyone in town knew to give her a wide berth as she piloted the behemoth the mile or so required to get to and from the church. They also knew it was best if no one parked in the church lot before she did and that it was unquestionably best to not have your car in the lot when she put her Fury in reverse to head home.
That’s sort of how I feel about March Madness; as a restaurant it’s not such a good idea to get in its way – especially when you know it’s coming. And, ladies and gentlemen, the madness is here. With a palpable vengeance. Having all three local teams still “dancing” at this point takes the madness to a whole new level. It’s essentially the equivalent of my great aunt driving to church without her glasses. And hungover.
Yet Easter cometh. And with it, Easter Brunch and our Easter Feast package. We do have reservations still available for Sunday and seven of the takeout dinners. From what I can see, Easter brunch will avoid the serious game-time madness. And the takeout definitely does. For the rest of the nerve-wracking weekend, we’ve got everything to fuel your basketball reverie. We’re even handing out black-eyed peas to everyone who joins us for dinner so that we help spread a little old-school luck for a certain local team.
And if you’re in search of some classy pre-gaming tonight, Atlas is throwing an Apertivo party/tasting tonight from 5-7pm with the folks from Mancino Vermouth. There will be snacks from Acme and lots of delicious libations. Being from Italy, they probably won’t sport any face paint. But don’t worry, we’ll understand if you do.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
