Greetings from Carrboro,
New Year’s resolutions can be a lot like those games at the state fair; failure is pretty much baked in the cake. Yes, I know, it is possible that you’ll learn Italian by the end of the year. Or that you’ll go through your phone and delete all the unwanted photos from the last decade. Sure. I do that ring toss every year, too. And my meditation practice has not improved.
So, this year I’ve devised – what I call – the Olympic method. Like the quadrennial sporting event, I have gold, silver, and bronze tiers to my resolutions. It really works. For example: gold medal – learning to speak Italian. Silver – reading the Divine Comedy. Bronze – ordering pizza. You see what I’m talking about? Just by calling Domino’s you’re on the podium. This is the sort of feel-good resolution that we need coming off the sugar high of the holidays. You know, baby steps.
And an Acme goal for 2024 is to again be open 7 days a week. Which clearly requires that we figure out how to be open on Tuesdays. As 2023 proved, much easier said than done. So, that’s where the Olympic method comes in – baby steps. On Tuesday, January 16th, we are having our inaugural Tuesday Supper Club. It’s a three-course meal limited to 30ish people. Reservation only. We’ll get started at 6:30. And it’s $42. Moving forward, there will be two in both February and March with menus for each released one week in advance.
The first will pair nicely with the May itinerary of our sister travel company, The Olive Road, and feature the dazzling food of Puglia in Southern Italy. You’ll get a taste of the rich food traditions that define that ancient corner of Italy. The menu for that dinner is below. To whet your appetite even more, a reminder that The Olive Road is hosting an Aperol Spritz affair at Atlas tomorrow (Friday) between 5:30 and 8. Come whenever. Drinks are on us. We’ll have classic Puglian snacks as well. And a first glimpse at our trip to Southern France in the fall. If delicious travel is one of your resolutions for 2024, this is a helluva way to get on the podium. Baby steps.
Acme has also made the resolution that Monday Funday is back. For all of 2024. Every entree, every Monday is $15. I can imagine that might tick the box of a lot of resolutions out there: Saving money. Eating out. More joy. More cornbread.
This weekend @ Acme: Sunday brunch! Crab cakes. Shooting Point Oysters. Acme smashburgers. Brussels’ sprouts. Blackened salmon. Mushroom paté. Acme bibb salad. Cheesecake with fresh pineapple. Acme cornbread. Classic Coquilles St. Jacques. Pecan-crusted fried chicken. Carolina shrimp cocktail. Acme wedge salad. Oyster po’boy sliders. Calamari salad. Pan-seared tuna. Chili-rubbed NY strip steaks. Acme – resolutely delicious since 1998.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
