Greetings from Carrboro,
When you take away the chef coats and fancy clogs, the sous vide wands and chamber sealers, restaurants are still pretty primitive. We use sharp metal to cut things and hot metal to cook things. Water boils and oil sizzles and line cooks swear. Hogs smoke overnight and sauces simmer all day. There’s no neat algorithm for peeling peaches or breaking down a tuna. And though working in a hot kitchen may require an artificial intelligence, it’s certainly not the one on the Syfy channel. This world is much less “beam me up, Scottie” than it is “hose me down, Nate.”
But this is the 21st century. Even for us restaurant Luddites. And online reservations are as entrenched in the business as is an ice-cold martini. So starting today, Acme is showing off our modern side. We’ve upgraded our reservation system from OpenTable to Tock. Tock is used by many of the best restaurants across America because it was specifically designed by restaurant people to better serve our guests. Period. And, well, we think that you’ll be thrilled.
You can now purchase tickets to wine dinners and other special events without having to call the restaurant. Gone are the days of “E-as-in-echo, D-as-in-delta, I-as-in-I-don’t-want-to-do-this-anymore.”
And the reservation button on our website will still be that same doorway to something delicious. We promise. As always, we look forward to your feedback as we hone our craft to make your experience at Acme that much better.
So, we thought, “why not give our new toy a whirl?” You know, kick the tires a bit. So, next Wednesday, August 28th, we are having a Vegetarian Wine Dinner. Oh, don’t worry; you don’t have to be a vegetarian to join us — you just have to be hungry. If you haven’t noticed, this is the season of bounty at the farmer’s market with an absolute dizzying array of produce that we’ll showcase. The dinner will get started at 6:30. Tickets for the event are $60 and can be purchased here or by calling the restaurant. Menu is below. I certainly hope that you can join us.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
