Greetings from Carrboro,
I don’t know when it happened. But I kinda understand why. Halloween lurched from a night when kids dressed as pirates and wandered neighborhoods in search of candy to an entire month of adults staging elaborately themed tableaux in their front yards that give Disney theme parks a run for their money. It’s pretty clear that Halloween is no longer a holiday; it’s a full-blown season. Just think of all the movies. And note that there’s only one other holiday that has large, mass-produced inflatable decorations. To be clear: that would not be Flag Day.
It was, I guess, somewhat inevitable. Something had to be a bulwark against the ever-encroaching creep of Christmas. Otherwise, who knows? St. Nick might train his sights on August. So, good for Halloween. But once we do stumble past Halloween and into November, those jingling bells start to ring. And, you know, ring.
But wedged between these two juggernauts is my favorite holiday – Thanksgiving. I’m a food guy, so it’s somewhat a cliché. I like that it doesn’t have a mascot (though I do get concerned that the pumpkin spice phenomenon might give birth to a jolly, little Pumpkin Spice character who has a pet turkey named Gobble. God forbid). And, equally, I appreciate that the only gifts are often in the form of a delicious pie. Or a bottle of wine. With no wrapping required.
For over a quarter of a century, Acme has prepared our traditional Thanksgiving Feast. Not only do we make Thanksgiving delicious, we make it effortless. And isn’t that what everyone wants? No turkey buying or recipe hunting. No need to fantasize that – this year – you’ll have plenty of time. Or that your work won’t throw you a fun, little curveball that week. Because that never happens, right?
So, you can just put all those delusions out of your mind and set all anxiety aside. Acme will start taking pre-orders for our To-Go Thanksgiving Feast today – to help you avoid all those holiday pitfalls. We’ve had a number of emails asking us when we would start taking orders. And, well, we thought that there’s no time like the present. Because why not? The sooner you’ve ordered, the sooner you can stop fretting all those endless details.
Each Thanksgiving feast is $85 and will serve two hungry adults and can be ordered here. Menu is below. You’ll also be given the option to purchase additional sides as well as pies and the like to make your feast complete. Pickup will be the Wednesday prior, November 27th, between 2pm – 5pm. With one simple click your holiday checklist will get quite a bit shorter. And you can get back to decorating your yard for Halloween.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
