Greetings from Carrboro,
We made fun of them. As far as we were concerned, those poor souls did not measure up. Even on tip-toes. It was the restaurant equivalent to those cartoon-esque cutouts at an amusement park that declared to potential riders that “you must be this tall to ride this ride.” And we were the snarky attendants turning them away from riding with the hip crowd. When a fellow server gave a certain exasperated eye roll and slight shake of the head you knew that someone in their section had ordered – god forbid – White Zinfandel. Eww.
A lot has changed in 35 years. From that cringe-worthy, where-you-from pink wine of yore, rosé is now what all the cool kids drink – especially this time of year when our days are gloriously longer than our nights. And for the past several years we’ve tried to capture all that deliciousness in one catch-all event, our Rosé Soirée. The issue has always been that we never have enough room for all who want to join in on the fun. So this year we thought it would be a good idea to expand it a bit and stretch that summertime vibe over an entire weekend, September 6th – 8th. Because, well, why not?
Oh, don’t worry; we’re still going to have the OG soirée. (I hope it’s abundantly clear that if nothing else, we’re a big fan of tradition.) But we’re adding a slew of specials to the Acme menu on Friday and Saturday (the 6th and 7th) and pairing them with a fantastic array of delicious pink wine from all over the world. You can choose any three of the wines for – spoiler alert – a mere $20. And, yes, several rosé inspired cocktails will be in the mix for those so inclined. Can you say, “segue?”
We will kick things off at Atlas on Sunday with a cocktail class – the Art of the Spritz. If rosé has a cocktail brother-from-another-mother, this is it. Learn how to make everyone’s favorite daytime tipple and how you can expand upon that theme at home. The good news is that as with all of our classes, you’ll get to take your glass home with you. The bad news is that there are only 16 tickets for the class. Tickets are $35. And the class will start at 3:30.
After the class, the Rosé Soirée will take over Atlas in earnest. There will be food from Acme, a perfect soundtrack, and just so, so much delicious pink wine. I gotta believe that the person who came up with Sunday Funday definitely had this in mind. Tickets to the soirée provide each guest with legit tastes of each of the wines and two glasses of your favorites – plus all the savory snacks, festive soirée bling, and one hell of a good time. The party gets started at 5pm and will come to an end when the sun sets on Carrboro. Tickets for the Rosé Soirée are $40. Space is limited. And if the past is any indication, the event will sell out.
This weekend @ Acme: Beautiful tuna from Salvador and Tom Robinson’s Seafood. Seared 16oz ribeye steaks. Southern succotash. Acme tomato plate. Martha’s chile relleno. Back-to-school pie. Brussels’ sprouts. Watermelon salad. Oysters on the half-shell. Ice-cold martinis. Pan-seared pork tenderloin. Shrimp risotto with charred chile cream. Acme wedge salad. Pecan-crusted fried chicken. Pan-seared scallops with spicy corn chowder. Southern tomato pie. Gumbo. Angel biscuits. Fried okra & shishito peppers. Acme deluxe smash burger. Peach & blueberry cobbler. Blackened salmon. Pink wine (but no White Zinfandel. Promise.)
Just because we’re so generous, we’ll throw in the perfect weather to sit out on our patio for free.
And, like always, brunch on Sunday, 10-2.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
