Greetings from Carrboro,
It’s obviously a conundrum. In their latest valiant foray to buy me a gift, my so-close-to-adulthood children bought me a keychain with an anthropomorphised mushroom that lights up. He’s quite emoji-cute. But I must say that having a plastic fungus unknowingly pulsing light in your pants’ pocket is not a great look pretty much anywhere. And I think I speak for most everyone when I say that.
But I get it. Getting Dad a present is hard. Neck ties are certainly not my thing. And those quickly scribbled IOUs-as-gifts of their long-past youth still haunt them from a box in my bedroom. The innocent lack of an expiration date on that promised car wash or breakfast in bed from 2009 is no less than a parental boon circa 2023. I lord it over them. Who knows? This just may be the year that my car needs a good ol’ scrubbing.
All of that is to say – your best bet is to get dad something delicious for Father’s Day. By and large, most father’s won’t put a smash burger in their pants’ pocket or, you know, hang onto it for 14 years. But they will enjoy it. 100%. And isn’t that the point? I’m gonna go way out on a limb and guess that pops will prefer a scrumptious meal with the fam over fluffy socks that say, “if you can read this, bring me a beer” on the soles. Right?! Please?
Father’s Day at Acme. Next Sunday, June 18th. Brunch and dinner. From biscuits and gravy to salmon and grits, we’ve got dad covered. And as a Father’s Day gift from us, all day long we’ll be handing out jars of our housemade strawberry jam to every single one of the great dads who eat at the restaurant that Sunday. But clearly it’s up to the rest of you to provide the appropriate toast. So yes, that’s correct; I closed with a dad joke.
This weekend @ Acme: soft shell crabs. Chili rubbed New York strips. Shooting Point oysters on the half shell. Blueberry cobbler a la mode. Corn pudding. Mississippi-style tamales. Acme tomato plate. Pecan-crusted fried chicken. Watermelon sangria. Yellowfin tuna ceviche. Scallop and shrimp risotto. Southern tomato pie. Smash burgers. Acme wedge salad. Strawberry shortcake. Blackened salmon. Overnight braised beef short ribs. Summer squash casserole. Flash-fried flounder. Pan-seared pork tomahawk. Acme Brussels sprouts. It’s pretty damn delicious here.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
