Greetings from Carrboro,
We haven’t resorted to leg warmers. Yet. Or gotten out that Tae Bo “Get Ripped” DVD that I bought in a late-night online fitness spasm in 2004. But I am beginning to think that if Richard Simmons suddenly came out with a “Sweatin’ to the Oldies – Restaurant Edition,” we might just have to buy in. Even if he’s wearing those extra short-shorts. Because getting in shape, or back in shape, or whatever the hell this is, is not easy. And it’s a tad embarrassing to struggle with something that used to be so getting-out-of-bed simple. Like playing full-court basketball without collapsing or, you know, even touching your toes.
But destiny calls. And, hell, we’re 23 years young. At least that’s what we keep telling ourselves. The team has increased our daily water intake and flat-out eliminated the afternoon dessert buffet. We had to. Because there’s no turning back now. The clock is tick-tock-ticking. Written in bold letters – with a Sharpie no less – it says very clearly right on the kitchen calendar: “Acme Re-Opening.” There’s even an exclamation mark next to the date, Friday, April 23rd. Yep, you read that right. This Friday. So, you see what I’m talking about – it’s time for us to flex those hospitality muscles once again. And it’s been a minute. No pain, no gain has never felt so true.
Nevertheless, I have the distinct feeling that Jane Fonda would be proud of our new team. And we hope that you will be, too. The staff has put in the hard work, and can’t wait for you to join us. For strawberry margaritas and soft shell crabs and Rocky Road sundaes. You remember that, right? Eating at restaurants? Well that blurry memory is about to come to life once again. This weekend. From 5pm – 9pm on the Acme patio. Reservations recommended. And moving forward, we will be serving dinner, both at the restaurant and through Acme To-Go, every Wednesday through Sunday. It’s a brave new world out there. But it’s certainly time for us to pull up our tube socks, grab our sweatbands and work out those last collective kinks. It’s true that we’re going to be sore in the morning, but that’s fine. Because all of us at Acme are thrilled to be back in the game. It’s showtime, Carrboro.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
