Greetings from Carrboro,
I tried to do the math. And failed. But I feel pretty confident that something like 600 people have worked at Acme over the years. Some for 20 days. And others for 20 years. A fair number came straight out of central casting for restaurants. In a band? Check. Tattoos? Check. Prefers to wake up at noon? Check. Not sure how they ended up here? Double check.
But while it’s true that our food requires precise recipes with specific ingredients and rigid measurements, there’s certainly no explicit matrix that creates an Acme employee. No formal checklist or roadmap that animates the serendipitous journey that ends with someone knocking on our door. Far from it. We’ve had a Melville scholar, a UNC basketball player, a few farmers and librarians, any number of drummers and bass players, and at least one person claiming to be on the run from a deranged lover. The whole gamut. Basically, if you called our team at Acme a Food Network incarnation of the Island of Misfit Toys, you wouldn’t be wrong.
So, to some degree, diversity is kind of in our DNA. And we are restaurant people so, you know, we are rather unafraid of a celebration. Or, if goaded, we will put up with a month-long, hell-yea fiesta – twist our arm. And for those of you living on the far side of Neptune, June just happens to be 30 days dedicated to celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community. And we think that is a very, very good idea. As a proud ally – with some serious cooking chops – Acme is dishing up some deliciousness just for the occasion. On the parade route, it’s smack dab on the corner of fun and delicious.
Oh, and colorful. I always forget it’s a 3-way intersection. Fun and Delicious and Colorful. Just as I like to imagine Acme.
Acme will proudly serve our Y‘all Means All Cake the entire month of June. It’s our four-layer rainbow of absolute deliciousness served with, yes, Sour Patch Kids ice cream. There’s a celebration in every bite, regardless of your flavor preference.
I am always incredibly proud to be a part of Carrboro, this vibrant place I call home. And I’m guessing that over the past 15 months, you – like me – have missed diving into the wonderful smorgasbord of humanity that makes this place truly special. Well come on. Grab someone and grab a slice; join the celebration. It’s June in Carrboro. What’s there not to love?
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
