Greetings from Carrboro,
I tend to stay off of bandwagons. At least I like to think that I do. In modern lingo, I’d say that I’m more or less what you’d call bandwagon adjacent. And that probably translates to me having some clear-eyed rationalization that allows me to side step any notion of any desire to be hip. The way that I can disdain the whole Stanley Cup rise and fall as I sip from my Yeti. It doesn’t seem that far off from when a childhood friend and I were found with a whole stack of Playboys that were stored in their attic and his mother scolded us, hands on hips, “your father gets them for the articles!”
But there’s at least one bandwagon that I’ll gleefully jump on when it serendipitously rolls into town – my vanity be damned. Fresh soft shell crabs. And, yes, that glorious, fickle bandwagon rolls into Carrboro tonight. Hallelujah. And while drooling is never a good look, with soft shell crabs I liken it to wearing Carolina blue on gameday – everyone else is doing it. My advice? Just don’t take any selfies.
Be warned; we only have so many; it’s a fickle bandwagon for a reason. Though I’d imagine that it’ll be Sunday before it pulls out of town. For those not so inclined, we have some beautiful tuna also from Salvador at Tom Robinson’s Seafood to scratch that seafood itch. Of course, a lot of people can’t imagine Labor Day Weekend without the indulgence of the perfect cheeseburger. And let’s be honest, our smashburger is less of a bandwagon and more a cruise ship. So, you can decide which to choose. Either way, welcome aboard.
And come to think of it, our Rosé Soirée at Atlas has a remarkably similar vibe. If soft shells are a bandwagon, and smashburgers are a cruise ship, then the Rosé Soirée is a rollicking party bus with the windows down. On Sunday, September 8th, our annual Sunday Funday celebration comes back to Carrboro, replete with more pink wine than you can imagine, an appropriate soundtrack, and righteous snacks to boot. The shindig starts at 5pm and rolls on until the sun sets on Carrboro. Tickets are $40 with over half already sold. So bring a friend and have a blast. You deserve it.
That same day, September 8th, we are having our 7th installment of our cocktail classes at Atlas: the Art of the Spritz. Starting at 3:30, our team will walk you through the history and future of the Spritz cocktail. You’ll taste several and pick your favorite. And as with all our classes, each participant gets to take their glass home with them to add to their collection. Tickets for the class are $35 and are extremely limited.
