Generally, I’m a wee suspicious of pithy sayings. As a veteran of the restaurant world, I have ample proof that the customer is not always right and that, in fact, a watched pot will boil. Every single time. So, when anyone rhetorically conjures the legendary epithet “luck of the Irish” I have similar doubts. Maybe it’s me, but history doesn’t seem so keen to ascribe the Emerald Isle with a great deal of unfettered good fortune. Leprechauns and pots of gold aside.
But this weekend might just change my mind. I don’t think that we’ve ever been so lucky as to have St. Patrick’s Day conjoined with such balmy, March weather. I have more than a few memories of watching the ACC tournament with snow on the ground. Starting tonight, Acme is rolling out a St. Patrick’s Day menu that will run all weekend long. Think housemade corned beef, shepherd’s pie, sticky toffee pudding – the yummy stuff. And to add to the aforementioned good fortune, reservations on our patio will be open for the first time all year. You have to admit that this whole scenario is starting to feel a tad lucky.
Remarkably, that doesn’t even take into account the windfall that all of our brunch entrees are still a mere $10. And with Sunday being St. Patrick’s Day, that gives you at least four chances to bask in all this Irish good fortune. And that’s just Acme. Our cocktail bar, Atlas will be serving an extravagance of Irish libations all weekend, too. But the good mojo won’t last forever. And oh-so hopefully, some of the luck will extend to a certain basketball team.
St. Patrick’s Day Menu @ Acme (3/15 – 3/17): Housemade corned beef & cabbage. Beef & Guinness pie. Sticky toffee pudding. Bangers & mash. Scallop & salmon shepherd pie. Lucky Charms ice cream sundae. Dublin-style lamb curry. Irish soda bread. Scotch-Irish eggs. Fish & chips. Guinness & chocolate cake. And all the necessary beverages to provide the proper craic, as they say. All that’s missing is you.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Sláinte,
The Staff at Acme
