Greetings from Carrboro,
She didn’t even ask. I watched in what can only be described as gastronomic horror as my date dumped the entire bag of M&Ms into the popcorn. As if that was what normal people did. As if wasting my hard-earned cash was some kind of sneaky girl-test of my amorous sincerity. I’m sure that my face betrayed me. She shook the bucket. “Really, it’s delicious. Try it.” And she grabbed a big handful and smiled.
Live and learn. So, when the two annual celebrations most identified by cocktails (anyone thinking Arbor Day, please start again) happen to be on the same day, we got this. Please. This is not my first rodeo. With the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo both this Saturday you don’t have to decide between a mint julep and a margarita. At Acme, you can have both. In the same glass. It’s mind blowing – I know.
But, alas, I must admit that the name for the drink eludes me. Margajulep and Juleparita sound like infectious diseases. Mintarita and Derbarita are a tad better. But that’s like comparing my grasp of Mandarin to that of my ancient Hungarian. Both could use some serious work. I think that I’m just going to name it delicious and call it a day. But the drink still needs a moniker. So, to that end, whichever one of you comes up with the best name for it will win two of the cocktails on Saturday night! Plus your name in lights! Email us your best name; libation immortality awaits.
And, of course, today is Acme’s Halfy Hour. Shooting Point Oysters on the half-shell for half-price for half the night (5:30-7:30). Let me do the math for you: a dozen briny oysters are just 12 bucks. That’s less than a movie ticket. The way we see it, Thursday is the new Friday. Acme – home of the perpetual long weekend.
This weekend @ Acme: pan-seared big-eye tuna. Grilled 22oz bone-in ribeye. Scotch eggs a la Bob. Cherry pie. Pecan-crusted fried chicken. Spring salad. Rosé sangria. Acme cornbread. Crab cakes. Clams casino. Shooting Point Oysters on the half-shell. Gumbo. Housemade pork rinds with avocado mousse. And the prettiest damn patio in town, if we do say so ourselves.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
