May 1st, 2026
Greetings from Carrboro,
If you’re feeling a little anxious, I get it. You stumble into May and there it is, staring you in the face. Mom-ageddon. It’s like Valentine’s Day, but substituting children for cupid, their cherubic, arrow slinging herald. I’m not saying moms aren’t romantic – please – just commenting that no one sees Mother’s Day on the calendar and thinks, oooh, hot date night! Still, flowers, chocolate – all the usual suspects – vie for attention. And then, joy of joys, you live in a college town and there’s this little thing called graduation that gets in the way when you try to make a reservation at a restaurant.
Of course Acme is open on Mother’s Day. And, yes, we’d love for you to join us. But we’re also planning to celebrate these fantastic, funny, fascinating women who also happen to be moms for more than, you know, just that one day. Because why not? It’s a tradition. Tuesday, May 5th, thru Thursday, the 7th, we’re giving all those wonderful women Mom-osas and Acme sangria completely gratis. It’s our way of saying thank you and saluting all that these women do to make this such a great place to live.

And for all the horse racing fans, Atlas is throwing a Kentucky Derby party tomorrow, May 2nd. Starting at 5pm, the mint juleps will be flowing. Fascinators welcome. The Run for the Roses post time is 6:57 tomorrow night. We will be showing the earlier races up until that time. It’s always a lot of fun.
And, yes, we do have soft shell crabs. Salvador @ Tom Robinson’s for the win!
Lastly, we are open all day on Saturday, May 9th, to accommodate all the craziness around the UNC & Duke graduation festivities.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
