Greetings from Carrboro,
At least I’m lucky enough to have an excuse; I work on Valentine’s Day. And Night. The rest of you, not so much. You can try to deny it. Bluster all you want about a Hallmark holiday. Fight the man! But my 30-odd year run of working every Valentine’s Day does provide one little nugget of wisdom – you don’t want 19-year-olds on a Tinder date getting a table instead of you.
Just sayin’.
Admittedly, it’s true. I more easily fit a profile for OK Stupid than for OK Cupid. So don’t look to me for romantic insight beyond how to cook a pork chop. But on the plus side, my romantic handicap makes me sincerely sympathetic for everyone else on the struggle bus to Romanceville. Or whatever that, um, destination may be for you. So to do our part, Acme is expanding the juggernaut that is Valentine’s Day to include all its relative siblings. Yes there’s good ol’ Valentine’s Day itself on the 14th. But we add oh-so-trendy Galentine’s Day on Thursday the 13th and Palentine’s Day on the 12th. You can think of it as the Acme trifecta of love. Unless, of course, that love stuff makes you a little nauseous.
OK. Let me unpack that a bit.
To be clear, Palentine’s Day is our own invention. So no need to wildly yell at Alexa to figure it out. We just couldn’t resist. It’s our little nod to the one unconditional love of your life – your dog. Am I right? Name someone else – I’ll wait – who won’t run and hide the moment you sing Lizzo’s “Juice” at the top of your lungs while doing the dishes. You gotta admit that love doesn’t get much better than that – no overrated cherubic archer required. So on Wednesday the 12th, we’re baking up a giant batch of heart-shaped dog treats for all our guests to take home to that bestie who’s always happy to see you. Literally, always. Though every now and again they may get a tad aggressive with the kisses. Some boundaries, pal! And if you post a picture of your furry sidekick on the 12th and @ us, we’ll put the pic in our Insta story. Face it; everyone needs more dog pics in their life.
And Galentine’s Day on Thursday the 13th is just as it sounds. It’s a night for women to go out. Together. You know, a celebration of all those BFFs in your life. All those women in your crew that you’ve been dying to catch up with for like – I don’t know – forever? And in person? And not just on Facebook? We think that’s a pretty damn good idea. (Guys, don’t feel left out; we thought of having some kind of Guylentine’s Day and realized that it already exists – hello, Super Bowl Sunday in front of the TV.) Galentine’s Day at Acme is lobster mac-n-cheese, pink drinks, boozy gummy bears, chocolate fondue, and a decadent and delicious Acme-fied breakfast-in-bed to take home with you. You know, basically the perfect Thursday night. With a soundtrack.
Then we get to Valentine’s Day. On a Friday night. Enough said. Acme will be serving our traditional menu with specials – no prix fixe to be found – starting at 5pm. We’ll have our last seating at 10pm. As you can imagine, it’s always a festive and fun and, well, romantic night at the restaurant. But don’t wait too long to get a table. Valentine’s in the Wendy’s drive-thru never ends well. Trust me on this.
So there you have it. The trifecta. You can join us for any or all of the above by clicking right here. I really hope that you will. Because, hey, what’s not to love?
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
