I don’t know what you call it. Maybe bling? But all the signature holidays have it. Thanksgiving has turkey dinner. Halloween has pumpkins. July 4th has fireworks. Valentine’s has Cupid and Easter has Bunny. And, of course, Christmas, the alpha holiday, keeps adding more, having recently imported penguins into the menagerie to dance around the tree.

So Mother’s Day at least deserves a festive shrub. Because if you haven’t noticed, our collective salute to maternity is having a moment; it’s no longer a B-list holiday. You know, like Labor Day or St. Patrick’s Day; Mother’s Day has leveled up. But I don’t quite think it’s gotten big enough to deserve a mascot. Yet. I think that we can agree that there have to be a few catchy tunes in the canon before any holiday gets a mascot.

But honestly I think that the better idea is to extend Mother’s Day. Stretch it out to a long weekend. I recognize that Happy Mother’s Long Weekend doesn’t roll off the tongue all that smoothly though we can leave the name to the folks at Hallmark. But you have to admit that the premise works. Because some moms just have more of a Friday night vibe in the first place. Regardless, adding a few extra days to celebrate these amazing women who happen to be moms sounds a lot more fun than a shrub.

At Acme, we’re going to do just that. We’re going to hand out glorious slices of strawberry cake to each of the moms who come in for dinner between next Tuesday, the 6th, and Friday, the 9th. Kinda perfect holiday bling. And we’re open all day starting at noon on Saturday the 10th and 10am on Mother’s Day itself, May 11th. Because at Acme, we moms.

Tomato Pie. Acme smashburgers. Strawberry & sweet biscuit shortcake. Hushpuppies. Waffles. Cinnamon rolls. Hot Donuts. It’s good to live right here, right now.
