Greetings from Carrboro,
Give me a “T”! Give me an “O”! Give me an “M”!
Ok, I’ll spare you. Because I have a strong feeling that most of you know where this is headed – outside that group of you named Tom who just got a little, prematurely excited. The 24th Acme Tomato Festival is here! Finally. July 10-13. In all its sun-kissed splendor. Hundreds of pounds of glorious local tomatoes sliced and spiced, fried and oven-dried, tossed and sauced – all for your dining pleasure. That most anticipated, delicious dive into our southern summer starts in a mere 53 hours. And then, in a blink, it will all end on Sunday. So, you’ve officially been given notice. Let the drooling begin.
Tomato pies. Tomato plates. Tomato chutney. Tomato salsa. Fried green tomatoes. Tomato cornbread. Tomatoes with tagliatelle. Roasted tomatoes with blue cheese. BLTs, Tomato succotash. Tomato tartare. Tomato spice cake. Tomato & corn salad. Creole tomatoes. Tomato martinis. Tomato & melon salad. Tomato sangrita. Tomato panzanella. Tomato & bacon jam. Tomato gravy. All with beautiful fresh tuna, scallops, bone-in ribeyes, fried chicken, pork tenderloin, shrimp, tasso ham, flash-fried flounder, chili rellenos, oysters on the half-shell, blackened salmon, and smashburgers.
Whew. That’s a lot. But, alas, that’s also the point. If tomatoes are not your thing, I’d suggest you eat somewhere else this weekend.
And, yes, in our swan dive into summer, we’re not leaving Sunday brunch out of the mix. We’ll have buttermilk biscuits smothered in tomato gravy, BLT eggs benedict, fried green tomato, egg, and pimento cheese biscuits, tomato coffee cake, the Acme tomato plate, our BLT bento box, and plenty of Bloody Marys and Micheladas to wash it all down. If done correctly, Brunch is kinda the perfect segue to a Sunday afternoon nap. Just sayin’.
The 24th Annual Acme Tomato Festival. July 10th – 13th. The best part of summer is finally here. I hope you can join us.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
