Greetings from Carrboro,
As a trifecta of hopes for the coming new year, health, wealth, and luck certainly do cover all the bases. But as my father would say, “hope and a quarter will get you a cup of coffee.” (Somehow my saying “hope and $4.87 will get you a latte” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.) So, I understand why the New Year’s Day meal of pork (health), black-eyed peas (luck), and collards (wealth) came to be such a treasured ritual. Not so much to guarantee a wondrous year or to fortify against lurking unforeseen tragedy. I mean, let’s be honest; it’s really because the meal’s delicious and a great way to start the year.
But there is a way to guarantee a certain amount of good luck on New Year’s Day – let us cook your New Year’s Day meal for you. Because do you honestly want to cook on Sunday? The day after New Year’s Eve? I didn’t think so. From 11am – 1pm you can pick up your traditional southern New Year’s Feast at Acme. Smoked forever roasted pig, hoppin’ John, and collard greens can be ordered here. Easy. You can even pick it up in your pajamas. And if 2023 turns out to be the year of your dreams, you’ll know why. Hey, it’s worth a shot.
And if ending 2022 on a high note is more your thing, Acme is open New Year’s Eve both in our dining room and on the patio. The kitchen will be offering our full á la carte menu. Think Oyster Rockefeller and prime rib, Brussels sprouts and blackened salmon. And the bar will certainly do their part. Think barrel-aged negronis and glasses of shimmering bubbly. It’s going to be a great night. Reservations are recommended.
So whether shepherding 2022 out the back door or welcoming 2023 in the front, Acme has your weekend covered. And we’d love for you to join us as we start our 25th year in Carrboro.
This weekend @ Acme: Pecan-crusted fried chicken. Acme wedge salad. Cast iron skillet crab cakes. Southern mushroom pie. Butterscotch pudding. Barrel-aged negronis. Braised beef short ribs. Shrimp chile relleno. Southern cassoulet. Acme cornbread. Fish & chips. Deviled Eggs. Oysters Rockefeller. Butternut squash risotto. Chicken liver paté. Firsthand Foods pork chop. Pink bubbly. Pecan pie. And many hopes for a great 2023.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
