Greetings from Carrboro,
I am unwilling to take responsibility for this. When I said that we were bringing the beach to town this weekend, I wanted to imply that we were bringing the beach vibe. You know, the deliciousness. Dumping half of the Atlantic Ocean on top of Carrboro was never in the plan. We’ve checked and clearly Debby was never on the invite list. Though to be transparent, we did buy a ton of umbrellas for the occasion – but the cute, paper kind that are impaled on orange slices to adorn festive drinks.
Rain, shmain. What’s a little precipitation? Especially with the siren song of fried shrimp and oysters and crab and flounder whispering in your ear. But the good news for the rain-averse, Acme’s 11th Annual Beach Week is here through Sunday. And we hear that little Debby is planning to leave town tomorrow. Hallelujah and pass the piña colada.
And the corn-on-the-cob and the hushpuppies, too, while you’re at it. The only thing missing from this tableau is the pungent smell of tropically scented sunscreen. And that – I’m guessing – is probably a good thing. We’ll certainly have the right soundtrack and even a treasure chest full of pirate’s booty for all the kiddos who join us for dinner this weekend. I know that I’m biased, but it really is the perfect summer meal.
The Acme Calabash Platter: Fried flounder, shrimp, clams, and scallops. Corn-on-the-cob, cole slaw, watermelon, and hushpuppies. Yum. There will also be fried oyster po’boys and oysters on the half-shell, Gumbo and pan-seared grouper, peel & eat Carolina shrimp and scallop risotto. And that’s just a start. A trip to the beach was never so easy. Or so delicious.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
