Greetings from Carrboro,
I didn’t buy it. Even as a 14 year-old. The trees were all wrong. There was too much dust. And just way too many fashionable cowboy hats. Let’s be real; the entire Dukes of Hazzard set was about as Southern as a toasted onion bagel. With a schmear. Unless by Southern you mean Southern California. I don’t think that I made it through the first episode.
To this day, I always like things that are truly from a place. Friends. Food. Wine. I like the story that resonates between place and people and all those unique things crafted by that dialogue. Be it that bagel, mentioned above, eaten on the Lower East Side or a hot bowl of Brunswick stew sold on Saturday afternoons at a volunteer fire department in Franklin County.
And wine is certainly no different. Great wine always speaks to place. The voices of Napa Valley have certainly shifted over the years (sometimes clearly, shall we say, off key) with the push and pull of public opinion. But the great estates have stayed true to the land where their vines grow and where their grapes ripen, honing in on what makes their craft unique and each vintage profound.
On Wednesday, March 6th, I am thrilled to have winemaker Laura Díaz Muñoz of Ehlers Estate in Napa Valley join us for dinner. A little food, a little wine. A lot of fun. Just off Highway 29 north of beautiful St. Helena, Ehlers has been crafting wine since 1886. On 42 contiguous acres, the vineyard is farmed organically with a focus on the Bordeaux varietals that have made Napa famous. The wines are seriously delicious. And doesn’t every Wednesday need a little extra delicious?
The Acme Wine Dinner with Laura Díaz Muñoz. Wednesday, March 6th. We’ll get started at 6:30 that evening. Menu is below. Tickets for the dinner are $80 per person and each ticket must be purchased in advance by calling the restaurant only (919 929 2263). Space is limited. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis. We expect the dinner to sell out. And, sorry, you don’t get a discount if you arrive wearing Daisy Dukes.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
