Greetings from Carrboro,
Some people’s lives are just too good to be true. Period. You know the ones. I read about them and, bit by bit, feel my native jealousy nefariously creep in. Usually I create a fantasized counter-narrative to balance the scales. Like, you know, I make Lebron James really, really bad at crosswords. And grilling on a hibachi. Only seems fair.
This happens a lot with winemakers. A lot. The romance of wine country does that. The sunsets. The tranquility. The je ne sais quoi. All those jealous-y things. Inevitably I settle on their having intense hereditary foot pain. Or some enduring allergy to beauty. But then Oded Shakked sort of up and takes the cake. Because his bio reads winemaker & surfer. Dude, please. This just runs afoul of all lifestyle jurisprudence. Hell, I want an ampersand in my life. And one that leads to something other than “still remembers his children’s names.”
Oh, well. Maybe in my next life. This go-round, I’ll have to settle on welcoming Oded to Acme as he joins us next Wednesday to showcase his aptly named Sonoma winery, Longboard Vineyards. Oded made his name as the winemaker behind Jordan Vineyards’ “J Vineyard” brand. He did that for 18 years before breaking off on his own to create the wines and the winery that more truly reflect his down-to-earth style. Lucky for us. Like him, the wines are open and expressive and vital. You can be sure that dinner with him will be all that and more.
The Acme Wine Dinner with Oded Shakked and Longboard Vineyards. Next Wednesday, June 5th. We will get started at 6:30 that evening with a super-limited sparkling wine that Oded is bringing just for the occasion. Tickets for the dinner are $70 per person. Menu is below. And all tickets must be purchased by calling the restaurant (919-929-2263). As with all of our special dinners, tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis. Not to be missed if you love true California wine. Let your neighbors be jealous of you, for once.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
