Greetings from Carrboro,
I rationalize. All the time. Often with a heavy varnish of moral vanity. I buy bottled juices at the grocery store that cost seven dollars but do not taste delicious – at all – and look decidedly worse. Similarly, I’ll choose bags of various exotic root vegetable and/or corn chips that are made communally in Colorado or Vermont to pass that same earnest superiority test. Almost like purchasing some vague modern forgiveness, lightly salted, for under $5 a bag. Hubris at Whole Foods. It’s rather tragic.
Thank god for Fat Tuesday and New Orleans. You know, Mardi Gras — that splendid reminder of the deep hedonistic joy of food that connects us all, unfastened from our awkward 21st century guilt. Gumbo, jambalaya, étouffée, beignets, po’ boys, hurricanes, and bread pudding are certainly not part of any Goop cleanse that I’m aware of. But if they are, please sign me up. I obviously could use it.
This year Mardi Gras is Tuesday, February 25th. So, really, how could I resist? All of us at Acme love the food of New Orleans and, well, we are a southern restaurant. It would be a shame if we didn’t laissez les bon temps rouler, don’t you think? And delicious is never a bad idea.
So for the next couple of weeks, as is our tradition, we are going to channel our inner Emeril and bring New Orleans to Carrboro. Well, the food at least. And, of course, we’re going to have a delicious and decadent party to celebrate Mardi Gras on the 25th. Beads? Check. Sazeracs? Check. A fantasy Crescent City menu? Double check. Spirulina foam? Probably not.
And this Saturday, February 15th, we’re having our own version of a Mardi Gras parade, but indoors and with more mimosas. That’s right, we have a handful of tickets (7, to be exact) left to our third drag brunch. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this. Tickets are below.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
