Greetings from Carrboro,
I hope you’re hungry. Or thirsty. Or better yet, both.
Mardi Gras is coming to town. Starting tonight and through Fat Tuesday, March 4th, Main St is turning into Bourbon St for Acme’s 15th annual deep dive into the glories of New Orleans. The music, the food, the drink, the beads. It’s going to be a party. So feel free to dress for the occasion – boas welcome – especially on Tuesday night. But to be very clear, clothing is not optional. Remember: this is still Carrboro.
We’ll have all those delicious foods with funny names. Gumbo. Jambalaya. Étouffée. Remoulade. Beignets. Maque choux. Oysters Rockefeller. And all those spirited cocktails that make Bourbon St so aptly named. Vieux Carré. À La Louisianne. Sazerac. French 75. Add to that some glorious tuna and monkfish fresh from the NC coast, oysters from Virginia, and shrimp from Georgia and you have quite the Mardi Gras feast. For a downright celebration, just add friends. OK, add good friends.
This weekend @ Acme: Monkfish étouffée. Cajun-spice rubbed 16oz ribeye steak. Sea scallops. Vegetarian Jambalaya with fried artichokes. Fried Chicken with mushroom & Tasso ham gravy. 2nd Line daiquiris. Acme smashburger. Oysters Rockefeller. Martha’s Mississippi-style tamales. Mint Juleps. Pan-seared duck breast. Fried oyster po’boy sliders. Acme wedge salad. King cake. Angel Biscuits. Pan-seared big-eye tuna. Maque choux. Delicious bubbly. Fudge brownie sundae. Raul’s gumbo. Crab cakes. Celery root remoulade. Shooting Point oysters. And as my daughters would say, a damn good vibe. Because weekends are just better here.
So say it with me: Laissez les bons temps rouler.
Excellent. I bet you feel better already.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
