Greetings from Carrboro,

It would be impossible. I think we can agree that if you ask any Beatles fan to name the best five songs and they will laugh at you. Similarly, if you asked my eldest to do the same for Taylor Swift, there would be equal amounts of eye-rolling derision, imagining that anyone – anyone – could reduce the T-Swift canon to some farcical “best” list.

And the same thing applies to food. Just ask anyone to name the five best Italian dishes and see what happens. Or a similar list for Mexican food. Or French or Chinese or Indian. It’s a fool’s errand to even try. But where can you get away with such a list? Ireland. Because, well, there may well be a pot of gold at the end of an Irish rainbow, there’s certainly no treasure trove of culinary delights. But, boy, the things that they do get right, they really get right. And it’s that coterie of deliciousness that we celebrate every St. Patrick’s Day at Acme.

So, next Tuesday, March 17th, we will uncork my Cork heritage and dive head first into St. Patrick’s Day’s greatest hits. Corned Beef & Cabbage. Guinness Pie. Irish Soda Bread. Smoked Salmon Shepherd’s Pie. Beer. Sticky Toffee Pudding. Bangers and Mash. Lamb Country Captain. Whiskey. Lucky Charms Ice Cream Sundae. And, yes, a proper Irish soundtrack and a  leprechaun. Of course. We’re presently brining 80lbs of brisket for the corned beef so please don’t make me eat it all by myself. We’ll open @ 5pm. Join us. It’ll be delicious.

And this Sunday, March 15th, we are having an Oscar Watch Party at Atlas for any and everyone. It’s especially thrilling this year as a good friend of mine, James Dean, has a film nominated for Best Live-Action Short Film, A Friend Of Dorothy. James is a UNC graduate and a fabulous person who richly deserves the honor. The Academy claims to be announcing every winner live this year. We will be there with fingers crossed! Yes, popcorn will be provided.
