I’m not sure of the right word. The one that most readily comes to mind is “revamped.” But that seems to imply that at some point I “vamped” (of which I have no clear memory) and that I am presently – somehow – “vamping” again. It’s all very confusing. Maybe it’s akin to sleepwalking where someone has to tell you that you’ve done such a thing well after the fact.
Here’s the skinny; we tweaked the menu. Not egregiously, mind you. But in ways that capture the best of what we do while listening to what each of you clearly say that you want from us. There’s more small plates and more things to share – a distinctly more casual, more 2024 approach to having a bite to eat. And there’s an increased emphasis on allowing you to create the dinner that you want at the pace you want – whether that meal encompasses three hours or thirty minutes.
I know, I know. Don’t worry. Acme is still going to be Acme. The classic dishes that have been a part of the restaurant these 26 years aren’t going anywhere. Cross my heart. And we’ll continue to have both feet firmly planted in the rich heritage of Southern food. Because that’s what we love. And what we know. So far, people have been thrilled.
A week from today, August 8th, will begin the 11th Annual Acme Beach Week. Without the sand or sunscreen or any pirate-themed menu that says “landlubbers.” But definitely with all the good stuff and more. Flounder and shrimp, scallops and clams, crab and oysters. Oh my. Not to mention hushpuppies and corn on the cob or cole slaw and watermelon. Of course there will be plenty of other things – hello piña coladas and icebox pie – to help sweep you away to paradise. It’s the perfect staycation. By the third bite, I swear you’ll hear the ocean.
This weekend @ Acme: Mascarpone cheesecake with fresh figs. Classic tuna Niçoiuse, Grilled cowboy steaks. Southern tomato pie. Pecan-crusted fried chicken. Peach & blueberry cobbler a la mode. Acme tomato plate. Martha’s chile relleno. Seared pork tenderloin with overnight tomato & bacon jam. Summertime yellowfin tuna melt. Acme smash burgers. Perfect gazpacho. Scallop crudo. Flash-fried flounder. Southern squash casserole. Three-bean salad. Forever roasted pig. Key lime pie. Ice-cold martinis. Acme corn ribs. Why would you want to cook?
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
