The food scene in lovely Carrboro runs circles around these famous locales. Our farmers are better. Our customers are better. The way restaurants feel is just better. Yes, the cheese in Vermont was amazing. As was the lamb in Colorado. But I never walked into a market that felt as vibrant as our farmers’ market in Carrboro. This was the first time in my life that I realized how truly special this place is that I call home.

In the morning, I’ll be at the market. Early enough to hide from the heat that tomorrow promises. But not so early as to enrage my teenage Sherpa; it’s a delicate balance. I have a strong feeling that Alex Hitt of Peregrine Farm will be there valiantly roasting the first great peppers of the season. (If you’re going, bring our local farming Prometheus a cold beer. He’ll need it.) And there will be corn and squash and tomatoes and figs and peaches and butter beans and field peas. So much great food. And great people. It’s good to be back. Viva Carrboro!! Now, if we could only work on that humidity part…
