Greetings from Carrboro,
It’s not every day that you get to use the word jubilee. Or every month, for that matter. Honestly, just try to trot out jubilee in any normal conversation; it’s not easy. Because casually getting up from the dinner table and proclaiming, “well, that was quite a jubilee!” will cause palpable concern about your mental health. Even among the people who love you the most. OK, maybe especially among the people who love you the most.
But when it’s the right word, it’s just the right word. And next weekend, July 10th – 12th, will mark the Silver Jubilee of the Acme Tomato Festival, our annual belly flop into all things tomato. For 25 years in a row, we’ve chosen a weekend in July to roll up our sleeves and pay homage to the most sumptuous part of a Southern summertime. We slice and spice, toss and sauce, fry and oven-dry hundreds of pounds of oh-my delicious local tomatoes just for you.

For those who’ve never been, the Tomato Festival menu will feature glorious tomatoes on nearly every dish, even dessert, all weekend long. And, yes, plenty of tomato centric cocktails to quell your thirst. So, if you want to think of the weekend as some kind of delicious tomato-palooza-esque staycation, you won’t be wrong. But if tomatoes aren’t your thing, you really might want to go somewhere else. Last year I bought over 500 lbs of tomatoes in preparation and I still found myself early that Sunday morning driving to farms for more. There’s a good reason we’ve held the Tomato Festival for 25 years. Our attempted radish festival didn’t go over quite as well.
So join us; a jubilee awaits. And that doesn’t happen everyday.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
