Greetings from Carrboro,
My daughters hate Father’s Day. Honestly, I’m surprised that the haranguing hasn’t started yet.
They’d rather shave their heads than get trapped doomscrolling trying to find something to give me as a gift. So they text and email and call begging me to give them a list of things I may want that fit within their 20-something budget. And when I text that just being in my life is enough, they flood my phone with angry emojis 🤬 expressing their wild discontent at my oft-repeated non-answer. So, I end up with a coffee mug to add to my collection.
And I know that my daughters aren’t alone. Because Dear Ol’ Dad’s Day shouldn’t be that hard; but it is. To that conundrum, let me offer a life hack – brunch. For dad (or daddio, as my older daughter calls me) there’s no faster route to his heart than through his stomach. And there’s not a tchotchke to force dad to fawn over, no “I put the fun in dysfunctional” t-shirt to buy, no dad-themed coffee mug to add to his, um, collection. Just a delicious brunch, a hug, and maybe a card. You’ve got to admit that’s a Father’s Day with a solid dose of sanity.

Father’s Day Brunch at Acme. 10am – 3pm. Sunday, June 21st. You really can’t go wrong.
And while I know that Father’s Day will also mark the official beginning of summer, I think it’s completely legit to consider summer in full swing when kids get out of school and the thermometer crests 90 degrees. And it seems our local produce agrees. Corn and blueberries and cherry tomatoes and so much more. Our walk-in refrigerator is like a basil immersion tank. And that makes me very, very happy. My guess is that eating on the patio this weekend might have the same effect on you.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
