Greetings from Carrboro,
There are signs. No question. And as we careen into April, the obvious signs of spring abound. But similar to the viral debate some years back about the colors of an infamous striped dress, people can’t help but see those signs very differently. Where some people see daffodils and bunnies, others see tornadoes of pollen, yellow cars, and a steady diet of Claritin and Kleenex. Spring fever clearly cuts both ways.
But not at the restaurant. At least on a weekend like this. If I had to name the trifecta that represent the glories of spring gastronomy, these three would get my vote. And – unbelievably – they’ve arrived at the very same time. Local asparagus, strawberries, and – wait for it – soft shell crabs. If you’re not salivating just a little bit right now, that’s a sure sign you should check your pulse.
Strawberry sangria and strawberry crisp. Grilled asparagus with our ribeye steak and then by itself with country ham and a Latta’s egg. And one of our favorites, soft shell crabs, as we always prepare them – flash-fried with rice, arugula salad, and romesco sauce. Oh my. You’ve got to admit, dinner this delicious is certainly not something to sneeze at.
And don’t forget brunch on Sunday. Every entree is $10. Really, leave the Wheaties for Monday. Weekends are better here.
There are also some tickets left for the next Tuesday Supper Club on April 9th (this Tuesday). We will be showcasing the best of NC seafood being brought up from the coast by our neighbor, Salvado Bonilla, at Tom Robinson’s seafood. Tickets are $45 for the four course meal. Dinner starts at 6:30 with doors opening at 6:00. Supporting another local business never tasted so damn good.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
The Staff at Acme
