Greetings from Carrboro,
It’s so easy to hate Californians. Driving through wine country in a rented Ford, I found my self sandwiched between an impatient Lamborghini and a tricked out Tesla. I couldn’t even appreciate the bucolic view, fearful that one little driving mistake would encumber my progeny’s progeny with a lifetime of unrelenting debt. On top of that, my $14 kale kombucha was left to warm to an especially delightful temperature. The drive sort of summed up my feelings; California would be wonderful without all those damn Californians.
But, then, here I am; writing this on my Apple, after Googling how to spell “Lamborghini,” all the while lusting after a Sonoma winery that’s coming to town. Oh, my poor, duplicitous soul. But maybe Failla Wines can get a pass – the owner/winemaker is from the East Coast (whew). The critics continually rave about the winery’s European heart. And, dammit, the wines are downright delicious. Super small production, estate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast that are certainly at the pinnacle of West Coast wine. The places that serve these wines are a veritable who’s who of the best American restaurants. And did I mention that they’re coming to Carrboro? To Acme? And how much I love that?
The Acme Wine Dinner with Failla Wines. Wednesday, September 28th at 6:30 in the evening. Price is $75 per person. Reservations are limited and required by phone (919 929 2263). Menu is below. Darren Palace will be joining us from the winery. It will be an amazing opportunity to taste these oh-so-delicious and almost-as-rare wines. And we’ll make sure that the food is equally wonderful. Honestly, if you can imagine a better hump day, I’d like to hear what it is.
This weekend at Acme – Smoked cowboy beef ribs. Pan-seared red snapper. Perfect chili rellenos. Housemade spaghetti. Acme tomato plate. Forever roasted pig. Down-east shrimp burger. Carolina shrimp.
