Figs and bluefish. Together. Not exactly my first choice for dinner. Or lunch. Or food in general. I’m sure that I made a face. That from a guy who grew up eating peanut butter & mayonnaise sandwiches – an equally odd combo. Sometimes with bananas. Still, I was shocked – despite the assurances of the cook, a woman in her 70s – that the figs and bluefish were so very delicious.
Some things just work together. And the affinity needs to be experienced firsthand to be believed. Melon and salty ham. Cheddar cheese and apple pie. Ranch and pizza. Sometimes after that first tepid sampling, people often can’t think of one without the other. Case in point: another surprising pair that intertwines wickedly well together – Drag and Brunch.
For those who’ve never been to a Drag Brunch, you’re gonna have to trust me. I imagine that the rest of you are smiling, nodding your heads. It’s so much fun. And it’s delicious. An over-the-top Acme brunch buffet with all the essential beverages side by side with tour de force performances that will have you cheering and singing along from your seats. The party goes down on July 10th – a mere 11 days from now. Sunday, meet upgrade.
We will get started at 11am with food and drink. The first performance will start closer to noon to give everyone time to find their groove. Admission is $40 and that includes the performance, the meal, and one adult beverage. The tickets can be purchased here. Come prepared to be blown away. And eat some mighty delicious food at the same time. It really is the perfect combo. But don’t worry. Peanut butter & mayo sandwiches will not be on the menu.
And this Sunday, July 3rd, Acme has the answer to all your Independence Day cooking concerns. Essentially, let us do the work for you. Consider it our patriotic duty. The Acme July 4th Feast. Dinners for 2 ($55) and 4 ($110) can be purchased here. Deadline for all orders is tomorrow (Friday, 7/1) at 6pm. Menu is below. Pick-up time for the meal is 12pm-2pm on Sunday. Deep down you know it’s true – cooking on holidays is way overrated. But enjoying a great meal is not. And July 4th is certainly a lot more fun when all you have to supply are the sparklers.
Well, that’s all the news from Carrboro. The staff at Acme look forward to serving you soon.
Cheers,
